Greenwood Centre

For over 250 years, Greenwood has been a focal point for the Hudson community.

1732:  Original house built by Jean-Baptiste Sabourin

1820:  Property purchased by Peter Francis Christian Delesderniers as residence and general store.  House enlarged.

1824:  Marriage of Peter Francis Christian Delesderniers to Amelia Rice.  House given name Greenwood Cottage.  Later, east wing added.

1841:  First Post Office in area established with Peter Francis Christian Delesderniers as Postmaster.

1860:  Following Amelia Delesderniers's death, became summer residence for family members.

1924:  Acquired by Dr. Francis J. Shepherd, grandson of Peter Francis Christian Delesderniers, for daughter Mary Cecilia Nobbs.  Summer home of the Nobbs family.

1960:  Permanent home of Phoebe Nobbs Hyde, great-great-granddaughter of Peter Francis Christian Delesderniers.

1994:  Upon death of Phoebe Hyde, Greenwood bequeathed to Canadian Heritage of Quebec. Greenwood Centre for Living History established.
